Srinagar, Dec 06 (KNO): In a shocking incident the body of a newborn male infant was found inside a washroom at the maternity hospital under the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) here on Saturday.
An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that attendants found the body in one of the washrooms and immediately alerted the administration, which subsequently informed the police.
“Upon receiving the information, a police team reached the spot and took possession of the body for medico-legal formalities,” the official said, adding that the incident has triggered shock and concern among the staff and patients at the hospital.
He said the body was later shifted for concerns to ascertain the exact cause and timing of death. “We are verifying all aspects of the case, including how the infant ended up in the washroom area and who was responsible,” the official added.
An investigation has been taken up to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those involved, the official said—(KNO)
